Make It Count For Judy is a non-profit organization established to help patients and their families in need of bone marrow transplant. Our mission is to raise awareness, promote education and offer financial assistance for bone marrow transplant recipients in the Philippines. We are powered by volunteers of families and friends. Through recruitment drives and fund-raising events, we aim to increase the number of bone marrow donors especially in the Asian community.
MAKE IT COUNT FOR JUDY's History
Make It Count for Judy was born in August 2006, shortly after Judy Rivera was diagnosed with MDS* (Myelodysplastic Syndrome) in the Philippines. It was organized by her family and friends here in the US to help raise funds for her medical expenses. When none of her siblings tested as a match, it was expanded immediately to help recruit donors through the assistance of A3M (Asian Marrow Miracle Match) and NMDP (National Marrow Donor Program). Sadly, our beloved Judy lost her battle with MDS on December 8, 2006 but we aim to continue her legacy to help others and establish a bone marrow registry in the Philippines.
*MDS is a group of disorders in which the bone marrow does not produce blood cells effectively. It is also known as pre-leukemia.
